lyrics

When I was 8 years old I remember having a catch
with my dad on a baseball field.
The sun was shining down on that playground
as he wrapped his arm around me, like a shield.
He lifted me up on his shoulders when he said
What do you want to grow to be one day?
Even back then, I didn't know
I grew kind of scared, but then he began to say
Just take your time. Try not to fall out of line.

Because the sky's the limit and I need to grow my own wings.
It may take a while, Dad. Just give me a minute
to find my own way to reach.

And I remember when I was 14 years old
Mom used to drive me to my first summer job.
I worked every day, though for minimum wage
but I made her so proud.
And every night she'd pick me and ask me how my day went,
even though I know she already had a clue.
and then she'd say
Hey at least one less bad day you gotta go through.
Just take it one day at a time, knowing that one day I would find

that the sky's the limit and I need to grow my own wings.
It may take a while, Mom. Just give me a minute
to find my own way to reach.

Inside i feel this burning
cause time moves so slow when you're learning.

Now I'm 22 years old and things are different now
but it all finally seems to make sense.
All the things that they'd say seem to apple every day
Now I know what they meant.
Cause I've been taking my time,
Trying so damn hard not to fall out of line

Because the sky's the limit and I need to grow my own wings.
It may take a while Dad, just give me a minute
to find my own way to reach.
Yeah the sky's the limit and I need to grow my own wings.
It may take a while Mom, just give me a minute
to find my own way to reach.
