Your Enemy
03:12
|
|||
It's been a long time; waiting for something to change
For the better, but it hasn't happened quite yet.
And I wonder why I gamble with my happiness,
when sticking with you always seems to be my best bet.
But you're always there to save me
Even when I get a crazy
I'm in over my head this time around…
Cause I'm tired of fighting - you gotta believe it
Tell me, honey, whatcha gonna do?
You can say you're leaving - you can take it or leave it
Tell me, honey, whatcha gonna do?
Don't wanna be your enemy!
Don't wanna be your enemy!
Well I know it's hard when you're in a relationship so long
You forget what it's like to be on your own.
It's the push and the pull, the give and the take,
Empty spaces between all the things that you wish you could say.
And it's nothing, nothing to worry about
When it's 4:30 in the morning
and you're complaining that I stole all the covers again.
Cause it's something, something to laugh about
When you complain it's just a simple flaw in my character.
And my character, and our characters can complete the scene.
Don't wanna be your enemy!!

Four Chord Song
05:01
|
|||
Who we are isn't who we were then.
We were so much stronger and prouder…and everything.
But we aren't now, because somewhere along the way,
Is slowly what we became.
But you…
Your memory keeps me strong
Cause it's beautiful like the perfect four-chord song.
And your hope always moved me along
Cause it's beautiful like the perfect four-chord song.
And your memory lingers on
Cause it's beautiful like the perfect four-chord song.
And you're somewhere…out there.
We always said we wanted a house in Montana
With a wrap-around porch, near a lake and
We used to wear brown shoes and green gloves
And have little inside jokes that nobody knew
But us and that was fine, as far as we were concerned.
Isn't it funny how the concern changes a little bit,
with every little bit that you learn…?
Your memory keeps me strong
Cause it's beautiful like the perfect four-chord song.
Your heart always made me more than what I ever thought I could be.
Memories linger on
When they're beautiful like a perfect four-chord song.
And you're somewhere…out there.
Now our days are so much different;
We surround ourselves with
People that we never thought we would've.
Now you've got somebody new.
That's fine as far as I go.
Cause I now have somebody too, who completes me in ways
That I'd never ever dreamed of…
And I feel no regret.
The perfect four-chord song.
Yeah she's beautiful like a perfect four-chord song.
The perfect four-chord song,
Yeah she's beautiful like a perfect chord song.
And she's right here…
She's right here.

Little White Lie
03:11
|
|||
He gets a Christmas card in the mail
His family says they miss him
And though he'd like to see them for a while,
He's got another show, another crowd to try and make smile,
Though they'll probably forget him tomorrow.
So he packs up his things and on his way
He finally gets to thinking:
Its no use in worrying them about the things I've gone through
He says, I'll just try to play it out, act like everything's cool
And hopefully, it'll all pan out fine some day…
So don't listen to me
Cause I don't know how to tell the truth.
What's wrong with a little white lie?
We all do it sometimes to get by.
Just don't tell me that you believe me.

Boss Of Me
03:49
|
|||
Gonna let you be the boss of me
Gonna let you take control
of all my thoughts and all of my soul
Take this desperate heart of mine and squeeze.
Gonna let you be the boss of me
Keep me on a short leash
Just in case I ever choose to disagree
And tug it fast, do what you please.
I'm not saying I can't fend for myself
It's just that it's easier this way
With my emotions and these thoughts in my head,
It's hard to think…
So could you do it for me?
At least for a while…at least for a while…
Gonna let you be the boss of me
Make me any way you'd like
Never too far from your sights
I swear you never lose an argument or a fight
Because I'm always wrong, cause you're always right.
I'm not saying I can't fend for myself
It's just that it's easier this way
With my emotions and these thoughts in my head,
It's hard to think…
So could you do it for me?
At least for a while…at least for a while…
At least for a while…at least for a while…??

Roofs Gonna Fall
04:24
|
|||
You shuffle your feet across the kitchen floor,
as the cat-hair sticks to your socks;
Open up the fridge out of thoughtless habit
last year's condiments
compliment the empty spaces on the shelf
where the dishes used to be,
must've relocated and piled up in the sink
cause in this old house where the foundation lays
the memories swell and sway.
But one of these days the roof's gonna fall down on you
And no one's gonna dig you out like before
No, you don't gotta leave the light on for me;
Though you'll probably go and lock the door
To keep out all of those scary, scary people…
You got the ashes in the attic just collecting dust
To hide the reminder that you gotta earn your keep.
Never underestimate the power of denial.
Colorblind the walls to match the tile;
And if it's broke, it's probably gonna stay that way.
No sense in cleaning up the mess.
Cause what was once a sturdy structure is now petrified;
Much like the unimpressed visitors and guests.
And oh, I've learned to never judge a book by its cover
There's history in these halls
But can the mistakes that you've made be learned from?
Or have they just damaged your walls?
Keep away from those scary, scary people.

Unedited
04:15
|
|||
She sits in an empty room, looking around
Nobody showed up, might as well look down on
Herself, cause it's all she knows how to do
But she don't understand that she's just like me and you.
Cause she's loved and she hated
Found out life is overrated
Been brought down until she's broken and jaded
But still trying to fit in…
She's lost her will, lost her friends,
Yeah, she's lost her way
Trying to hold on for another day
It's okay…she's beautiful
Because she's so damn unedited.
Nobody said it wouldn't be a bumpy ride.
Nobody said you'd always win first prize.
But who said you had to go and poison yourself?
Who said those drugs were good for your health?
Come on girl, there's gotta be some thing else.
So get over regret, and get over your fears.
Get over yourself and try to find a better way
To pick yourself up and get yourself in gear! Oh my
dear…

She Eases Her Seat Back
03:56
|
|||
She looks at me and says she wants to go take a ride
I say, “Where you wanna go?” she says, “I don't care,
As long as I'm by your side…”
The smile creeping up her cheek is telling me
She's got something on her mind the only way to know
Is to get behind the wheel and drive.
So she eases her seat back, I readjust the mirror,
Shift into a higher gear,
To a better place than here.
Holding hands and sneaking kisses in the loading dock
After work, I'm stuck waiting in the parking lot.
She's never been good at being on time.
But it's always worth the wait, when she's walking towards me
With that glare in her eyes, hops in the passenger seat.
“I feel like running every stop sign!”
So she eases her seat back, I press on the gas
“This could be our only chance
don't wanna see it come and pass.”
Cause she said:
“Hey boy, you wanna run away with me?
Feels like I'm running out of time,
there's too much more to see.
I'm tired of this life. I'm too young
To limit my possibilities.
Hey boy, you wanna runaway with me?
We'll get a studio flat outside of the big city.
I'm tired of waiting. Feels like every minute's an eternity.”
She said, “hey, do you wanna runaway with me?”
I know it sounds crazy, but seriously…

Youth
03:27
|
|||
9 months of waiting for your first breath of air.
Family's in the waiting room, whispering a prayer.
Out of the womb, and into the light;
So happy to be alive.
There's many things ahead of you, even in your youth:
Riding bikes and t-ball games, and losing your first tooth.
Sleepovers where you beg your mom to stay up past midnight;
So happy to be alive.
So happy to be alive.
One day you'll wake up and realize
That the days of your youth have passed you by.
There's no turning back the clock,
Because good things take time.
So be true to yourself
And everything will turn out just fine.
So be honest with your friends they'll always have your back.
Fall in love and learn to give and keep you head intact.
Believe in yourself and never be afraid to try;
So happy to be alive.
Your hands may get callused, you get a scar or two.
You go through some hard times, but you learn to make it through.
And if you're lucky, one day you'll look back and feel satisfied;
So happy to be alive.
So happy to be alive.
So happy to be alive.

Epiphany
04:53
|
|||
I'm living in purgatory
Not quite heaven not quite hell.
Just waiting somewhere in the middle
Wondering where I fit into it all.
And I call on a trusted friend, ask him to guide my feet
So maybe I can reach my destination.
Cause a little wisdom in the end would do some good.
A little patience could make it go a long, long way.
A little piece of mind is all that any of us has been looking
for…
We're getting this epiphany.
Everybody wants to be the king
The time to shine, the time of day
Everywhere, surrounded by strangers
Rushing here and there, every which way.
And I call on anyone out there, ask them to simply listen
Cause I'm just another face in the crowd, craving some attention.
Cause a little wisdom in the end would do some good.
A little patience could make it go a long, long way.
A little piece of mind is all that any of us has been looking
for…
We're getting this epiphany.
Looks like we're coming home…

Crazy Rocket
06:04
|
|||
Well there's a hopeful road for us.
The obstacles, as time unfolds
the long hours spent on short-term goals.
There's gonna be a time for us.
When all the doubt has faded with the day
And the stars that shine won't seem so far away.
We're making history.
You gotta believe me.
Because this crazy rocket we're building
is gonna shoot us far past the moon
and these walls behind in a wake-trail.
And this greyskied life we're living
is never gonna shade us from the sun.
Man, I can't wait to see us there.
You know I can't wait to see us there.
It always starts with a simple dream.
Sacrifice to put the pieces in place,
Though never satisfied with just taking up space.
With so much out there to see,
We'll let the doubters question where they stand.
We'll greet the universe with an open hand.
We'll cover A to Z, throughout the galaxy.
Though floating around isn't quite good enough
There's gotta be a final destination in sight.
Still, we keep holding on
Ever waiting for the right time.
But man, THIS IS THE HERE-AND-NOW!!
You know I can't wait to see us there…
